Afghanistan – Another 500 troops, a world of difference.
It has been announced that another 500 troops will soon be on their way. My first thought was..would 500 troops really help things? Secondly, what is the cost to the families of those killed or injured in action. Lastly, how much is this war costing you and me, considering the countries debt that we will all have to pay for over the coming years.
What got my goat during the recent ‘all above board’ elections there were a couple of village elders interviewed to gauge their intention to come out and vote even though the Taliban were threatening locals. To my amasement a couple of them said that they wanted the Taliban back and for our troops to go home. OK! LET’S DO IT! I REPLIED SHOUTING AT THE TELLY.
As of 11th October, the British forces have suffered 221 fatalities[6] and 790 wounded in action, another 1,951 have suffered from disease or non-battle injuries….and for what?
We, as a country are, as always, trying to fight above our weight. The result is that we are ‘playing’ with it. Trying to make out that by over stretching our brave men and women and not providing them with adequate resources that we really can make a difference? We need to wake up. There are families sending out parcels of kit to the frontline because basic equipment is lacking.
The Politicians say that Afghanistan is the breeding ground for terrorists. Yes, it has been but they will only move onto some forgotten place such as Somalia. This futile ‘war’ will go on for years and years and hundreds more brave and committed members of the armed forces will die.
Don’t ‘play’ with it. Send in another 50,000+ N.A.T.O. troops and wipe them out or forget it.
Better still, leave the Afghans to a corrupt government, opium, and the Taliban. This war is not worth British lives or our money. Politicians, have a thought for the families.
