BBC HD Picture Quality: Only one formal complaint

"..Oh, Barry, how thoughful..it's just perfect for BBC HD!"
Right, who was it?
Come on, let’s be having you. Who was it who complained? Who broke ranks? Unbelievable!
The BBC News website quotes Danielle Nagler as saying that the BBC has received only one formal complaint regarding picture quality.
Tobacco firms used to say that smoking didn’t cause cancer.
It also reports the lovely line from Danielle’s latest blog post “that the services was created to be at its best for “typical viewing set ups” and that user groups with standard equipment were happy with the service.”
Typical viewing set up?….so it’s Samsung’s fault.
‘Dear Samsung, I must complain because you have over spec’d my HD Ready TV. Apparently it is not ‘typical’. Can you please tell me how I can remove the following so I can enjoy HD at it’s best:
1080i/p, Just Scan 1:1 mapping, 100Hz motion plus, 120Hz @24Hz processing
I just don’t need them. Many thanks.
“100Hz motion plus, 120Hz @24Hz processing”
Arguably these fancy sounding processing features make things worse, not better.
This post was me being somewhat flippant as the reduction in bitrate and therefore picture quality is being justified by Danielle Nagler on the premise of ‘typical set up’, whatever that is?
120Hz @24Hz only applies to Bluray material and 100Hz should not be over used to order to maintain the ‘film’ nature of any HD material.
The lighthearted point I was trying to make here is that you don’t need an all singing, all dancing TV to get the best from BBC HD, something that is quite different to the ‘old’ days of BBC HD.
I wonder if Danielle believes a Videocon £280 32″ HD ready TV from ASDA is a typical viewing platform they are working to.
Videocon….how apt!
