Facebook Wootton Bassett March Campaign: Politicians take note!

Further to my recent post about the vile proposition of extremists marching through Wootton Bassett, over 738,000 people joined this campaign on Facebook. However, today it seems that Islam4uk has stated that the proposed march will not take place.

What the Facebook campaign demonstrated is how powerful social networks can be in bringing together like minded souls. Thousands were up in arms that our society and indeed, the town of Wootton Bassett could be hijacked by a small group of people with extremists views.

But what the group also revealed was that itself was hijacked by people who, themselves, have extreme and racist views. Of course this was not the intention of the group and such comments were not tolerated but they did occur. So it begs the question which is worse? In the same way that Islam has been hijacked by extremists, the same thing then happens to a genuine public demonstration.

I hope the group on Facebook is now closed down. it has certainly served it’s excellent purpose, but some of the comments were undermining the core principles and indeed it’s credibility. But Politicians take note! It has also demonstrated an underlining discontent with the politically imposed ‘tolerance’ of our society. Our society allows individuals to preach extremist views that only incite and devalue what the Country stands for. Or, at least what it used to stand for. Weak, political correct laws introduced by Labour over the last decade or so are polarising society. When the majority start to feel isolated and marginalised it can soon become a very dangerous situation.
