Halloween: Ban ‘Trick or Treat’!

I hate Halloween.

It’s just isn’t ‘British’. It is another imported excuse designed purely for commercial gain. Manufacturers and retailers rubbing their hands as they exploit the heartstrings of parents. Just pop along to your local supermarket and you will see aisles full of tat.

Yes, the same supermarket that has had Christmas puddings and mince pies on display since the end of September.

Yes Britain, we’ve let them do it to us again.

And, what about this trick or treat crap? Who wants their evening ruined by endless groups of children calling. I certainly don’t. A lot or people don’t and many elderly people feel threatened. Of course, in good old British Society fashion you also get the ‘hoodie yobs’ who feel that it is an excuse to terrorise their communities even more than usual.

Yes, that is what some children think.

I was watching Countryfile on BBC1 tonight. It was focusing on the farms that encourage children and families to visit. To interact with the animals. Get to know what a pig looks like, what a goat smells like and that a cow isn’t just a name their Dad calls their Mum.

But lately there have been several e.coli outbreaks and some children have fallen ill. E.coli is not nice for anyone..nasty! The farms do have hand washing facilities at various posts throughout the farm but young children do tend to put their hands in their mouths.

Having Children: Who pays?

For most people having children isn’t that hard. The nine month process isn’t perfect but it does the job. In fact, as this is the only instinctive evolutionary reason we exist getting pregnant is ‘technically’ one of the easiest things in the world to do. So easy that we have invented several forms of effective contraception. Brilliant!

So, we are pretty much in control. Which is very nice to know because bringing up a child is a very expensive process and we wouldn’t want to have a child without doing our sums first would we?

I am so pleased that couples take this rational view before they start, you know, ‘dabbling’.

Bullocks!
